A dental implant is a titanium screw or post that fuses into the jaw bone to replace a missing tooth. Dr. Greenberg makes an incision in the gum to expose the bone and drills a hole to place the post. An abutment on top of the post allows the placement of a porcelain crown that will look like a natural tooth. Dr. Greenberg has placed thousands of dental implants over the last 35 years and he utilizes the Nobel Biocare Implant System.
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from the jaw bone. Dr. Greenberg has performed many of these as well throughout the years. The most common teeth that need extracting are the wisdom teeth.
A Panoramic X-Ray and Cone Beam CT Scan will help Dr. Greenberg examine all of your teeth to determine if extraction is necessary. Tooth extractions require either a simple or surgical procedure. This could mean just a local anesthetic and forceps to remove the tooth or general anesthesia to cut the tooth out.
A root canal is the removal of deep decay within the tooth and root in an effort to save the tooth. If that fails, you will need an apicoectomy, which requires Dr. Greenberg to remove the tip of the tooth root and seal it with a filling so the bone can regenerate around it.
An impacted canine is a tooth that cannot erupt through the surface of the gums. These teeth are important for chewing and for a normal smile. Dr. Greenberg will surgically expose these teeth and place a bracket and gold chain to bring the tooth down to the proper position.
